Wednesday, 9/21: Body

* Check Introductions

* Peer Edit
* Does it get your attention? Help your friend.

From Bedford: Ideally, the sentences leading to the thesis should hook the reader, perhaps with one of the following:

  • a startling statistic or an unusual fact
  • a vivid example
  • a description
  • a paradoxical statement
  • a quotation or a bit of dialogue
  • a question (be careful; this one often does not work so well)
  • an analogy
  • an anecdote
* Is the thesis better (than yesterday)? How could it be improved?

* Review

*Body Paragraph #1
* Topic Sentence
* Support: quotations. Quotations should be like the drive-thru at In-N-Out at 10 am: Fast! They should be as short and pertinent as possible. Also, the ellipses (...) should be utilized in the middle of a quotation to get to the point faster (they can also be overused for dramatic effect). They should not be used to introduce or end a quotation...the reader knows something came before and after your quote, that's why it's called a quote and not a book.
* Commentary: So what does this proof prove? Tie it to the thesis; put a bow on top.

HW:
  • Vocabulary Unit 1 (Voc U1)
  • Body Paragraph #1 (Reno's class, bring a hard copy, printed out, on paper, made from trees)

If you think you have ever made a mistake so large that it seems that no one could have ever done worse, trust me, people have.

Loosing a son in the days of old a family would mourn for days for then that would be the end of the families power.

There a lot of reason why people use their power in the wrong ways to protect themselves.

The death of your own son should surely bring you down, but the death of your wife should bury you down, and the displeasing of your god(s) surely will bring you hell, and will not stop until your loved ones hear life's final bell.

The gripping tragedy of Antigone brings about many different issues. This story gave the Greeks a vivid example of what not to do. Although the story of Antigone is ancient, the lessons taught still apply today; we see evidence for the abiding vitality in the song "Below My Feet" by Mumford & Sons.

Have you ever made a mistake and your pride made it worse than it could have been? In the story of Antigone Creon made a mistake by making a law that was against the gods. Likewise in the story of David, David made a mistake by sleeping with a married woman. In the story of Antigone and the story od David, the kings, Creon and David make mistakes and have similar and different punishments.

Intro paragraph

Have you ever been caught in a situation where you knew something was right, but you had to do it anyway? This is what happened to Antigone and the story if Creon the king of Thebes. She was caught between burying her brother even though the king made it illegal to. Creon disobeyed the gods by doing this. David stories is very much like this because he disobeyed god. Creon and davids stories are very similar yet they have different endings because how they showed faith in god and carried themselves after they had sinned.

In the Bible story of Kind David and the Greek story of King Creon, we are taught that we all make mistakes, but it is how we repent that counts. King David killed a man in order to make that man's wife his. In the story of King Creon, Creon is disobeying his gods and ignoring the advice of others. The stories of David and Creon are similar in the actions performed, but each character's morals and beliefs and reactions differ drastically.

David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." Nathan replied, "The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die." The drama of Antigone and the book of Samuel are related in numerous ways. The Kings Creon and David were both blinded by their pride; however, their beliefs completely changed their lives

A war between kings and Gods would be a stand to see who will win

The kings that we consider the best is known for its wisdom, justice and its righteousness. They use their power and status to contribute to his kingdom and for his people.

Jesus reminds us in the the book of of Matthew verse 19:24 "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the the eye of an needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." This verse in the Bible is relevant to both the story of Creon and the story of king David

in so many movies there are people with the power that can help everyone, but instead they use their power to steal money and commit many crimes breaking all the laws. Just like kings creon and king David from Antigone and from psalm. With the power that was given to them, they abused their power and are punished doing so. Power comes with responsibility and with responsibility there will be weaknesses.

Sometimes when we get to much power or responsibility, as humans, we can get carried away. We can make wrong choices, thinking they're the right ones.

Around the world when people make big mistakes, they tend to make drastic decisions under the pressure that they're under.
